~Return to Rocky Gap~
A resident of Briarwood Nursing Home, Amelia Sterns Monroe refuses to accept that the best of her life may be behind her. Defying logic or explanation, she finds a way to travel through time back to the people and the place she once loved. She finds herself returning to Rocky Gap.
The youngest of three, Amelia grows up adoring her oldest sister, Cecilia. When Cecilia marries and leaves home, Amelia finds herself an unwilling conspirator in her sister Lydia’s evil schemes. After Lydia’s choices result in tragedy, Amelia struggles to find forgiveness for the sister she has never understood. When Elmer Monroe enters Amelia’s life, she finds in him an all-encompassing love that can’t be denied. As her life takes an impossible turn, she is shocked to discover a newfound understanding for Lydia. But, is it too late?
Spanning from 1921 until present day, Return to Rocky Gap is the epic tale of a family torn apart by tragedy and brought back together by war, only to find that distance is sometimes the hardest obstacle to overcome.
Sixteen-year-old Sennie Lacefield grew up surrounded by a loving family. Living in the Lacefield Mountain Lodge, she felt protected and surrounded by the nature she loved. Her family kept her nestled in a protective cocoon. That cocoon is gone now. Things have changed. Two girls from the small town of Mayrose, Arkansas are missing. One turns up in Little Rock, the other one, Sue Stimes, can’t be found.
During a 4th of July celebration at the lodge, Reatha Alcoker, Sennie’s best friend, leaves to use the restroom and never comes back. As the search for Reatha begins, Sue Stimes is found dead, floating in Craneneck Slough. Enlisting the help of Reatha’s boyfriend, Milo Durham, Sennie sets out on a quest to find the friend she loves.
The town of Mayrose is filled with suspicious characters. From June and Fred Heller, who own the Mayrose Café to the lecherous Sheriff Cackley, Sennie creates a list of suspects who might be responsible for Reatha’s disappearance. In addition to the suspects, there is a cast of lovable townsfolk, who help her along the way. From the seven old men who sit on the front porch of her grandmother’s store chewing tobacco and telling stories, to Reatha’s own grandmother, Miss Pearleen, Sennie is surrounded by people who care. Unfortunately, caring about Sennie has warped the mind of a murderer.
Soft Morning Mist of the Chickasaw Domain finds her life turned upside down in the course of one fateful day. First, she marries a man she isn’t in love with, out of duty and loyalty to her family, even though she is plagued with visions of a Spirit Warrior. It is a secret she reveals to no one. Then, on the night of her marriage, a lonely dog’s howl leads her to discover the body of her best friend floating in the Skuna River.
Calling Blue Jay, an old village hag, hates Soft Morning Mist’s grandmother for stealing the man she loved. Determined to seek revenge, she enlists the help of her daughter Broken Birch, a witch with powers divined from black magic. When Soft Morning Mist’s quest for the truth leads her to the Natchez Nation as a captive, she comes face to face, not only with the truth, but with the Spirit Warrior of her visions. She must choose between staying with him and ruling the Natchez Nation by his side, or escaping back to the Chickasaw Domain and the husband and life she left behind.
